Happy Birthday, Joan!!

Does anyone know what these are called?

On the day of her birthday, yesterday, we left home at 11:30 and arrived at the palace at 12:00. To our surprise there was no one at the reception desk and only a cleaning lady washing the floor in the ballroom. About 10 minutes later a woman appeared who checked us in and gave us our room on the second floor. A non-descript room next to what use to be the servants quarters with two small windows up above but within reach to open. It was a bit warm in the room so we opened the windows to get some fresh air in the room. Aside from one othe couple with two kids, we were the only people staying the night there and it was like having the palace to ourselves. That was kind of nice because it allowed us to explore everyone and take pictures inside. It's not a palace that was restored with old furniture or antiques but with mor modern things. There are some pieces of older furniture but mainly newer. We unpacked our bag and went outside to walk around the palace and then go for a walk around the surrounding property. It is big in perspective to other palaces we have seen but the new owners did a nice job of renovation.

The palace was built between 1877-1880 by the Otto Albrecht von Treskov family. As a result of family social problems, in 1904. Albrecht von Treskov was forced (for a good price) to sell the assets in Biedrusko with the palatial residence surrounded by a picturesque park. The assets were acquired by the German army, which was looking for a place of a large military training ground. After the war, World War II, the palace was used as an administrative building for the needs of the Polish People's Army.

Within the walls of the palace lived such distinguished guests as Kaiser Wilhelm II, who, in 1910. He came to Poznan for the opening of rhe Imperial castle, in May 1923, probably with the Marshal of France, the UK and Poland's - Ferdinand Foch, and in 1937 the king of Romania - Karol II. In 2009., After several years of absence of the user, the abandoned Palace once again enjoyed new owners who completely restored the palace and park. They returned the former glory if the neo-renaissance. They established  arestaurant and a hotel with a conference and recreation center, offering 90 beds of different standards, ballroom and winter garden, two rooms in the basement of the neo-Gothic style, and a scenic lookout tower. The historic landscape park, with an area of approx. 14 hectares, deserving special attention is the amphitheater, a gazebo, two ponds and a fountain, surrounded by red and white roses. The palace is constantly changing (both inside and outside), and is still waiting to be discovered by the outside world.

We've known about it since 2007 since when it was still owned by the Army and for sale at 7 million zloties. At that time it wass protected but nothing was being done to renovate it.

What we found strange was that the front door was locked at18:00 and we could only enter through a side door to get to our room, Thid we only knew because the caretaker happened to be walking by when we were sitting outside and told us, otherwise we may not have been able to sleep there last night.

For our dinner we chose not to eat in the restaurant below the palace and instead drove 8km to the Hacjenda restaurant. I knew of this place from friend, wanted to try it before and thought this was a good opportunity. It was a good experience with good food, good service and a pleasant evening.

W dniu jej urodzin, wczoraj wyszliśmy do domu o 11:30 i dotarł do pałacu o godzinie 12:00.
Założyli arestaurant i hotel z konferencji i rekreacyjnym, oferujący 90 miejsc noclegowych o zróżnicowanym standardzie, sala balowa i ogród zimowy, dwa pokoje w piwnicy stylu neogotyckim, a malownicze widokowa.
