Bruges..

We went for semi-breakfast at the local bakery, a cherry tort and coffee and then set up GPS for Bruges. For some reason, the GPS sis having trouble keeping a valid satellite connection since we've been here and although we make it to our destination eventually, it takes a little longer.

But we did get to Bruges, 45 minutes west of Ghent and a surprising place. We haven't see as many tourists in one place except for Krakow. Maybe it's because of the movie I mentioned before but what ever it is, there are many tourists. Too many, in fact, according to one shop owner where we bought post cards. She lived in Bruges for 54 years but now has moved 6 km away because the locals don't feel like it's their city anymore. The city council is dedicated to the tourist trade, 12 months a year and traffic never stops now for winter. There is no peace and quiet time anymore in Bruges. Being two of those tourists, we absolutely love the city. You can escape the main body of tourists by going down small streets away from the center but the center is beautiful with a huge square, beautiful old architecture and plenty of things to see, not to mention all of the chocolate shops of which there are many. The canals are another interesting aspect and although we didn't take a canal cruise today, we will on Monday when we go back to spend another day there.

Of course, prices are high in the square but the cafes are still packed with people. We visited two old churches, a museum, had only coffee in the square and just watched the people. The languages of French, Flemish and German seem to be the dominant ones but almost everyone local speaks English as well. I'm looking forward to seeing what the place looks like at night on Monday. It's suppose to be sunny so we thought that would be a good day for the boat ride.  Tomorrow we will stay in Ghent and visit the Gravensteen castle. It looks like a very interesting place.

Jutro będziemy pobyt w Gandawie i odwiedzić zamek Gravensteen. Wygląda na to bardzo ciekawe miejsce
