Zameldowanie!

Thanks to a nice wind blowing through Poznań the hot weather didn't feel quite so bad today. We got up early so we could be at the building where you get your resident address permit(zameldowanie) when they opened at 9:00. We thought we had everything we needed, got our ticket for waiting from the automated machine and in 3 minutes we were standing in front of a clerk at window 23. She looked over the documents and then told us we had to show the original contract with our landlord and we just had a copy of it.  It was my fault, I suppose. I should have remembered you ALWAYS have to take originals to any govermennt offfice. There was also one form that we needed to fill out so we went back home, got the original document, filled out the form and went back. It took the new clerk at window 31 about 20 minutes to check everything and then she printed out the zameldowanie for us, stamped it, of course(they love stamping things) and we were done.

From there we went to immigration to give this new document to them. It is necessary in order for them to print your address on the new card for Joan. You can have a card without an address but in some situations it might be a problem so we thought it best to get it all done correctly. So, we thought this whole proces this morning would only take an hour or two but it took much longer because we had to go back for the original document. Now the information will be sent to Warsaw, the card printed and sent back to the immigration office in Poznań. When it is there, they will call or email us to pick it up. However, officially, Joan is a permanent resident of the EU.

Going down in the elewator from the 4th to the 1st floor, we heard another young couple speaking in English about how much trouble they have had with immigration. I just turned around and said to them, "It's Poland. If you want to stay you have to play by their rules. You will get use ot it". I think they were from England. Of course, now that we have the permit for Joan, it's easy to say this but I was just as mad as they were, for the last three weeks. Only today did the sun shine brightly...a figure of speech, not meaning the weather.

Powinienem pamiętać zawsze trzeba brać oryginały do jakiegokolwiek państwowego urzędu. Był też jeszcze jeden formularz, który musieliśmy wypełnić, więc wróciliśmy do domu, wzięliśmy oryginalną umowę najmu, wypełniliśmy formularz i wróciliśmy w to samo miejsce.  Innemu urzędnikowi w okienku 31 zajęło około 20 minut, aby wszystko sprawdzić , potem wydrukować dla nas zameldowanie, oczywiście przystawić pieczątkę (kochają stemplowanie) i zostaliśmy załatwieni.

Teraz informacje zostaną wysłane do Warszawy, potem karty wydrukowane i przesyłane z powrotem do urzędu imigracyjnego w Poznaniu.
