Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Calumet City, Illinois was originally opened to serve the rapidly growing Polish Community in the southeast Chicagoland area and Northwest Indiana. Today the cemetery welcomes all Catholics of varying ethnic groups. In 1983 an Interment Chapel / Garden Crypt Complex was erected. A new Garden / Crypt Complex, adjacent to the original structure, was completed in 1989 and dedicated to Our Lady of Czestochowa, Our Lady of Mount Carmel and to Saint Anne, mother of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is the place where my Kazmierczak grandparents, aunts, uncles and father are buried.
On our recent trip back to the area I stopped to pay my respects to them all and was disappointed to see the sunken headstones of my grandparents, neglected now because no one still lives even remoteley close. I wrote an email to the cemetery last Saturday asking if it would be possible to reset the headstones and what would be the charge. To my surprise, today I received this reply....
Dear David,
In the spring I will reset both headstones that you requested.

Świętego Krzyża Cmentarz katolicki w Calumet City, Illinois został otwarty do obsługi szybko rosnącej społeczności polskiej w Chicago na południowy wschód od obszaru i Northwest Indiana. Dziś cmentarz wita wszystkich katolików różnych grup etnicznych. W 1983 pogrzeby kaplica / Garden Complex Krypta została wzniesiona. Nowy Ogród / Crypt Complex, obok oryginalnej konstrukcji, został ukończony w 1989 roku i poświęcony Matce Bożej Częstochowskiej, Matki Bożej z Góry Karmel i św Anne, matka Najświętszej Maryi Panny. Jest to miejsce, gdzie moi dziadkowie Kaźmierczak, ciotki, wujowie i ojciec są pochowani.
Na naszej ostatniej podróży z powrotem do obszaru przestałem się ze czcią do nich wszystkich i był rozczarowany, aby zobaczyć sunken nagrobki moich dziadków, zaniedbane, ponieważ teraz nikt nadal mieszka nawet remoteley blisko. Napisałem e-mail na cmentarzu w ostatnią sobotę z pytaniem, czy byłoby możliwe, aby przywrócić nagrobków i jakie będą opłaty. Ku mojemu zaskoczeniu, dziś otrzymałem tę odpowiedź ....

Just a word of caution - keep checking and ask for photos after the work is done. My family had the same problem with Ridgewood Cemetery in Niles for about 5 years. Yes,we were assured the work was done, but on several visits to the cemetery the stones were still half buried. Finally, my cousin visited in person for about the 5th time and got another assurance. Finally it worked and we received photos of the raised stones.
