A little light.

Thomas Burzycki- Great grandson of Jozef and Ludwika Kazmierczak, grandson of Cecylia(Kazmierczak) and Chester Dąbrowscy, son of Jeanette and Conrad Burzycki.
Annessa Babic-great great grandaughter of Jozef and Ludwika, great grandaughter of Adam and Rosalja Kazmierczak, granddaughter of Andrew and Mary(Kazmierczak) Babic and daughter of Andrew and Rebecca Babic.

Even in the darkest hour there is some light. I received these two pieces of information about two of our relatives and thought I would pass them on.

Business Major Chair
The business department is chaired by the 2010 Holy Cross College Excellence in Teaching Award winning professor, Thomas Burzycki. The award is given to the faculty member who draws the most votes from students, faculty and staff.

Thomas Burzycki began teaching at Holy Cross five years ago after retiring from a 35-year career as a business executive. His last position was president of an international musical instrument manufacturing conglomerate that was listed on the New York Stock Exchange. As a chief executive, he is experienced in mergers, acquisitions, divestures, strategic planning, public stock and registered debt offerings, financing, and the daily rigors of running companies.

Other awards Burzycki has received during his career include the Indiana Governor's Sagamore of the Wabash Outstanding Businessman's Award, the World Trade Club International Business Person of the Year Award, and the Colonel Samuel Rosenbaum Memorial Award of the National Guild of Community Schools for the Arts Business Person.

Burzycki has served on many national boards of directors and advisory counsels' including the Fischoff Chamber Music Council, the National Council of Music Importers and Exporters as the President, the Indiana University Graduate School of International Business, the Indiana University Music Business School, the State of New York Music Business School, the Interlochen Music Schools, the Music Teacher's National Association, Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation as a founding member and board member, the American Music Conference president and board member, the National Association of Band Instrument Manufacturers president and board member, the National Association of Music Merchants board member. Locally, he has served as president of the Homeowner's Association, on a Catholic school board as president and board member, as president and board member of the South Bend Youth Symphony. He was a board of directors member of three privately owned firms, a Rotary International Member, and a 3rd degree level Knight of Columbus.

Burzycki is a Certified Public Accountant, holds an MBA from DePaul University in Finance, and a BA in accounting from Loyola University.

Authors night: Annessa Babic received her PhD from Stony Brook University (2008), and her next work—a full length manuscript—is under review for press (“Undoing Glory: Gendered Constructions of Patriotism in Twentieth Century US Society, 1917-1972”). One of her more recent pieces, titled “What Lies Beneath: Jasper Johns’ Flag (1954–1955) as a Mirror for the Changing Face of Postwar Patriotism,” can be found in The Theme of Cultural Adaptation in American History, Literature and Film: Cases When the Discourse Changed (Edwin Mellon Press, 2009).

She is the recipient of numerous grants and fellowships, a two-time teaching fellow, and has received a Peter Rollins-Michael Schoenecke Travel Grant from the Popular Culture/American Culture Associations for her paper “Wonder Women Fetishes and Fantasies: The Image of the Patriotic Female During World War II.”

She has published on topics as varied as terrorism in the post 9-11 age to American patriotism, and has presented at conferences outside her field and around the globe. In addition to academic pieces, she has contributed to Lupus Now (a magazine for Lupus patients and those seeking material on the disease); her most recent essay/memoir is “Just Cut My Wings And Let Me Fly.”

She is co-author of “The Globetrotting Shopaholic: Consumer Products, Spaces, and Their Cultural Places.” Currently, she is working on a new manuscript discussing the image of the soldier verses the veteran.
