Berlin trip.

Well, we have decided to go to Berlin on Friday, March 13th, in the morning and return on Sunday night. Probably we will take a train there and back but it is not decided for sure. It is difficult to get into the main part of the city by car so most likely we will take a train there, check into a hotel and then use public transportation to sight see. We will be going with another couple so it should be an interesting trip. If any reader has recommendations on where to stay or what to see, they would be most welcomed.

Tonight a friend called to say she had just made some bread using "zakwas" as the starter for the bread and she made an extra loaf for Joan and I. She asked us to come over and pick it up. When we got there she had also placed some zakwas in a jar for Joan, then sat down and told Joan how to use it and how she makes her bread with all the ingredients written down. That was so sweet of her. This bread has flax, pumpkin and sunflower seeds in it and does not look like anyother bread we have had before. Tomorrow morning we will cut into it for breakfast.

Jutro rano będziemy pocięte go na śniadanie.

Hi David, I have been to Berlin twice within the last ten years. In both cases, I stayed in a budget "Hotel-Pension" places, in the center of the city, which you may consider. First time it was Hotel Bogota. There was an unforgettable buffet breakfast included in the room price (but it was like ten years ago or may be even more than that). Second time, four years ago, I stayed at Hotel Pension Kima of a similar room and price standard. By the way, Bogota and Kima are within couple of blocks from each other. You will find both of them online. Street parking was no problem, but you are right that sightseeing will be easier by using public transportation and taking train to Berlin may be fun.
As far as what to see - just use any standard tourist guide and you will be fine.
I am sure you will enjoy the trip.
    Kris

  2. David,

Berlin is a great city, you should enjoy it. In fact, it is so close to Poznan, that you might find yourself going back on a regular basis.

Good luck. I am off to Nashville tomorrow for an overnight business trip.

    Dear Joan and David,

If you like to find out where to stay in Berlin and not spend big bucks, go to www.ricksteves.com and look for information about Berlin. He has a show on PBS called Rick Steves Europe and show nice palces to see and inexpensive accomodations.
You can also look for it at CreateTV.com and you can find his show there. There is also Rudi Maxa and Burt Wolf programs listed on Create website, so look fof those too.

Have a great trip and enjoy your stay in Berlin. I visited Berlin when was still in East Germany. If you have opportunity try to go to Potsdam, which is suburb of Berlin, try to visit Pergammon Museum and go to Check Point Charlie Museum. You will find all the information on Rick Steves website.

  5. Well, after you can give me some train advice. I'm planning to get away on Sunday, March 21 to buy my train ticket to Poznan. The hotel I'm staying at for the conference is expensive, but this is a capitol city after all. I'm paying 10 euro for a couple of Internet vouchers so I can have e-mail for last minutes travel plans.
