Christmas?

Christmas decorations all over the place in King Cross mall. It looks like the U.S. including American Christmas carols. Commercialization has taken over here. I can't tell the difference between here and there now. You don't hear Polish Christmas carols because the custom is for them not to be sung before Wigilia, Christmas eve, but I wouldn't be surprised if that doesn't change also, especially in the shopping malls. Soon will be the Christmas craft show in the International Trade center where artists will be selling their wares. We went last year and saw some beautiful, hand made, Christmas ornaments for the trees. Maybe we'll go back this year and buy some. They were so much more elegant than the ones sold in the stores and kiosks in the malls. It reminds me of the years Joan and I spent with our woodworking business making jewelry boxes and selling them at art shows in Chicago. I really enjoyed the woodworking, we just couldn't make a consistent living with it.

Today was shopping day, 120zl($44) for the next weeks food. It only takes an hour to do the shopping, we still go back to the same place we always shopped. We probably do that because everything is in a place we know and don't want to go to a new, closer store where we have to find each item we want, plus they have a better meat market at the old place in Real.

Thanks for all the Thanksgiving cards we received and the messages that came with them. We had a non-traditional meal, pasta with blue cheese sauce, potatoes, salad and ice cream for desert.
The surprise Christmas present for Joan has been put on hold. It was to be a visit from her daughter, Karen, but she doesn't have a passport yet and decided to delay the visit until February, if then. It's a bummer, it would have been so nice.

    Dear Joan and David,

Best wishes for Thanksgiving of good health first and foremost.

The picutres of those boxes are just amazing. You could make some money in Poland doing this kind of work. They are really great.

We spent quite Thanksgiving with our friends. I have been very busy with doing special presentation for my former boss and organizing drive for care packages for US soldiers in Iraq and Afganistan to be delivered by Christmas. My husband's veterans organization is sponsoring the drive and we had a lot to do. Thanks to everyones help weare ready to prepare parcels and send them. That is the reason that I did not write to you for quite a while.

Please stay well and have good time shopping for your Christmas tree, decorations and take care of yourselves.

Best wishes and all the best as always,

  3. Thanks Anna,
Yes, I probably could make some money with the boxes in Poland but that would require renting a building, buy all the equiptment needed to make them and then finding a market. At one time, that would have been enjoyable but now I would rather spend my days exploring Poland and getting to know the language. After all, I am retired :-)
