Rogalin Trip

Too nice of a day to stay inside so I decided to take Joan to Rogalin to see the outside of the Racyński palace. The inside is being renovated and will not be available to see until June 2009.

The Rogalin Palace was originally built in the second half of the 18th century as a home for the Racyński family, who owned the palace when the Second World War broke out in 1939. The Palace survived the war without too much damage, and was then included as part of the National Museum of Poznań. It has no been renovated for the last 20 years. The National Museum in Poznań was awarded a €2.9 million grant from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway in November 2006 to start the process of saving the damaged Rogalin Palace in the region of Wielkopolska. It seems strange to me that these three countries are paying to have a Polish palace restored and not the Polish government.

We spent two hours there and then took backroads to Poznań. We passed through the village of Czermonieć where I found an interesting cemetary. All the tombstones were in the German language and in the middle of the small, unkept cemetery was a small chapel. I took pictures of the inside through the window because the chapel was closed.

Take a look at the Rogalin Trip slideshow pictures.

I read on Marilyn's blog that cousin Nora has departed with the Dittenber family for Canada and then the eastcoast of the U.S. I think she is having a wonderful time in the U.S.
My research of family continues and soon I will have the birth and baptismal certificate of my maternal great grandmother Ludwika Rajewska. The "angel on my shoulder", Katarzyna from the immigration office has located it in the state archives and soon I will have it.

Muzeum Narodowe w Poznań był przyznany €2.9 milion stypendium z Islandii, Liechtensteinu i Norwegii w listopadzie 2006 by zacząć proces oszczędności uszkodzonego Rogalin Pałacu w regionie Wielkopolski.

Spędziliśmy dwie godziny tam i wtedy wzięliśmy backroads do Poznań. Przeszliśmy wieś Czermonieć gdzie znalazłem interesujący cemetary. Wszystkie nagrobki były w języku niemieckim i w środku małego, nieutrzymanego cmentarza były małą kaplicą.

Moje badania rodziny trwają i wkrótce będę mieć urodzenie i metrykę chrztu mojego matczynego wielkiego babki Ludwika Rajewska.
