Goodbye!

Today we had a visit from John and Agnieszka Fahland. They leave next week for the U.S. and we were happy to see them before they departed. Joan and Agnieszka are members on the International Ladies Club in Poznań. Agnieszka came to Poland from California so Agnieszka could be with her mother who was ill. Unfortunately her mother passed away just before Christmas and now they are going back. We have had the pleasure to meet with them a few times and each time was enjoyable.

After our visit I went for our weekly food shopping at King Cross.
I find it interesting that taxes are broken down into three different categories with three different rates. For example, beer, napkins, paper towels and plastic bowls(like Rubbermaid) are taxed at 22%. Breakfast cereal, sardines, tuna fish and salad dressing are taxed at 7% and eggs, meat, milk and vegetables are taxed at 3%. This is what I bought..........
200 paper napkins..$2.61
20 medium sized eggs..$2.96
Musli breakfast cereal..$2.62
Salad dressing mix..$.38 cents
4 apples..$1.10
4 small potatoes..$.52 cents
2 medium tomatoes..$1.03
2 rolls paper towels..$3.92
1 medium size plastic bowls..$2.83
Romaine lettuce..$2.61
2 small onions..$.08 cents
2 cans sardines..$2.70
I can tuna fish..$2.09
Maybe this will give you some idea of food prices in Poland today. In many cases they are not much cheaper now than in the U.S.

Niestety jej matka umierała tuż przed Bożym Narodzeniem i teraz oni wracają. Mieliśmy przyjemność by spotkać z nimi kilka czasów i za każdym razem byli przyjemny.

200 serwetek papierowych..$2.61
20 środka ustawił według rozmiarów jajka..$2.96
Płatki śniadaniowe Musli..$2.62
Przyprawa do sałatek mieszają..$.38 centów
4 jabłka..$1.10
4 małe ziemniaki..$.52 centy
2 średnie pomidory..$1.03
2 listy papierowe ręczniki..$3.92
1 średni rozmiar plastyczne miski..$2.83
Odmiana sałaty Lactuca sativa longifolia..$2.61
2 małe cebule..$.08 centów
2 sardynki puszek..$2.70
